Maxthon browser is IE based.
Opera browser has its own code as far I know...

Not a search engine as such, more an security/protocol/rendering engine.

Opera is independent being neither IE or Gecko based.

What program isn't detecting Opera, can you expand?

avast works fine with opera by default if that is what you are asking, no need to change any settings.

Maybe, you must set Opera as the default...
Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Programs > check the proper option...

Are you wanting to set Opera as default browser? In Opera click tools>preferences>advanced>programs>check box for opera to check if default.

Well it detects IE and Firefox on mine in the Custom section, not Avant or Maxthon so MS is a little picky. However when you open this window the option should be Use my current Web Browser which is ticked.

Now if you open the Non-Microsoft section, it shows Firefox as my default browser, which is correct as that was my current browser.

None of this should matter providing you have Opera set as your default browser and it works, opening html/htm files or web URLs using Opera.
