Update to the new release
« on: November 19, 2005, 04:03:04 PM »
Hello all, a simple question.
To update to the new release 4.6.731 from the old 4.6.691, do I have to unistall the old program before installing the new, or can I overwrite the old one?
Thanks

Hi, simply right click the 'a' ball in the system tray (next to the clock) and select 'updating'>'program update' in the pop-up menu.

My update worked fine, cause I installed it with an admin account.
I never had software update for automatic install.

But it would not have worked with XP limited user account?
Just a curious question what might have happened in that case?

No, avast updates are incremental and could (should) be runned over the previous installation. No trouble.

It does not work on limited user accounts. Only virus database could be updated from a limited user account.
