Webshield SSL scanning in XP
« on: August 14, 2015, 12:14:46 AM »
I just wanted to know if somebody else could test this. I opened the following ticket this morning, but support said they weren't getting the same results:

I have two machines I am testing on. Windows 7 x64 and Windows XP SP3. If I go to the Eicar test virus download here:
http://www.eicar.org/85-0-Download.html

When I download the HTTP test file, both machines block it. When I download the HTTPS file, the Windows 7 machine blocks it, but the XP downloads it with no issue. That tells me the SSL scanning is not working on the XP machine. They are both running in the same template.

I also tried on another XP machine with the same results.

Hi,

I've done the same test on Windows server 2003 (XP base) and Windows Server 2012 (Win7/8 base) and get the same results as you.

http download of all files gets blocked on Win2k3 and Win2k12
https download of all files does not get blocked on Win2K3 but does get blocked on Win2K12.

I'm using the same template on both servers so it is not a configuration error.

This may also explain my inconsistent HTTPS site blocking I am experiencing on 2003 which always works on 2012. See https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=173773.0

Windows XP with SP2?

I think it's a bug because they fixed it in Avast Free too.

- Fixed problems with HTTPS browsing on Windows XP SP2"

I am using XP SP3. Also this is the Avast for Business Cloud software. The current version is 2015.10.2.2505. Looks to be a little behind than the consumer version. I do believe they will be releasing an update soon.

More weirdness. On XP, I can't go to the following site in Chrome or IE:
https://www.foolishit.com/cryptoprevent-malware-prevention

Yet, I could access in Firefox. In Windows 7 it worked fine in all 3 browsers.
