Moving real time protection report locations
« on: May 11, 2016, 02:02:39 PM »
I've been trying to move these to another folder, or even another HDD, but whatever I type I can only seem to change the file name, and they persist in remaining in the original (c:\programdata\avast software\..." folder. Am I trying the impossible here, and the entire path (apart from the filename) is hard coded?

Moving them doesn't make much sense as avast will create them again.

Reason for moving is limited space on SSD drive C: and oodles of space elsewhere .. they can get quite large if you like to track what has been scanned and rated OK (which I sometimes do). The program provides a way to change filename, but it doesn't seem to work for changing folder or drive.

Change the settings for the log files creation.
e.g. set maximumm size, overwrite instead of append and such.
I'm not sure and can't check at the moment, but perhaps you can change the location also in the settings.

If by "reports" you mean the content of the "report" folder, then it's not possible to change the location to a different folder in Avast UI - for security reasons.
You can, however, create a string value called ReportFolder in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AVAST Software\Avast (or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\AVAST Software\Avast on 64bit Windows) and point it to a different folder - that should help. You'll need to disable the self-defense temporarily to create that key.
