OK lets have a look

Could you let me know what the exact problems are that you are experiencing

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Select  additions at the bottom
  • Press Scan button.

  • It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Please attach both logs generated.

I should tell you that I am still using Windows XP. Could this be causing a problem?

 Okay, great!

To answer your question, what problems am I experiencing, can you scroll back and  read my first post?  That is a basic summary, beginning with when I contacted Time Warner, due to Avast telling me that I have a problem with my Network, then TW telling me that I need to get rid of Avast and they sent me a link that took me to McAfee for a free download, because nothing but McAfee anti virus is compatible with them. Since my PC is only a 32 bit, and I have to use Internet Explorer to download McAfee, and since I have a 32 bit PC, I was unable to download anything beyond the Internet Explorer 6 that came with my PC. I use Mozzilla Firefox or DuckDuckGo as my browsers, so as soon as Time Warner discovered this, they basically said I am out of luck.

Yes, I got the same impression. It was very frustrating when I had to tell the technician that I cannot download Internet Explorer 7 or higher, due to having only a 32 bit PC, and that without that I can't download the link they sent to me of McAfee free.  I had to repeat that several times and when it finally sunk in he just said, without the download you are out of luck.

What started the problem I am having now with my Avast is, after I followed their instructions and removed Avast from my PC and all that, and after I discovered that I cannot download IE 7 or higher, I immediately went to Avast to download and reinstall it. When I did this, THIS is when the problems  began, and from corresponding with you and the others helping me here, I have to remove all the left over stuff from my original installation that was lerft behind when I uninstalled it--and this is what you are trying to help me with. Is this correct?

Can we go back to where you were asking me to download the Farbar Recovery Tool?

First you must install SP3

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24

OK this fix must be run from safe mode with networking

Do you know how to get there ?
Reboot the computer and repeatedly press F8
Then on the menu that appears select safe mode with networking

CAUTION :  This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
