Windows XP has been running since 2001 so what you are seeing there is 14 years of updates

In themselves they are not a problem as you have sufficient hard drive space :

Drive c: () (Fixed) (Total:182.6 GB) (Free:136.16 GB) NTFS ==>[drive with boot components (Windows XP)]

However, the workhorse RAM is another problem :

Percentage of memory in use: 76%
Total physical RAM: 894.48 MB
Available physical RAM: 213.91 MB

You need to bear in mind that over that 14 years the other programmes that you use have changed and initial memory requirement were quite small as RAM was expensive.  However, the price of RAM has decreased and processor speeds have increased and programmes have adapted to that but, they do not take into account older systems that they may be used on.

Bottom line I feel is that as time progresses then the situation will get worse and XP will be left far behind

Wow!  Now I get the picture. I wasn't reading the stuff that came up last week when it showed you what my system has, and now I see the figure 213MG of ram.

Thanks for pointing out what you said here just now. I guess it is time to either get myself a new PC altogether, or just do an upgrade with this one.  I will hopefully do this as soon as I get back on my feet.

  Thanks so much, essexboy!

Your best bet is to go with a new computer. Upgrading the old one still leaves you with an old core and old technology.
