DNS Leak
« on: August 27, 2015, 02:05:56 PM »
Does anyone know is the Avast Secureline VPN has protections against the so called "DNS Leak" (e.g. something similar to the "Network lock" used in AirVPN)?

I realised even if Secureline VPN is connected when I test on ipleak.net they appear multiple DNS and one is still the real location (at least for the first 15-20 mins)! I tried both with Firefox WebRTC disabled and Opera and the result is the same. I flushed the DNS cache and no change as well.

:-\ personally I don't like to much the complete lack of options and info on Secureline... several other VPNs have a dedicated option page to select the Encryption level and statistics, Secureline despite being integrated in the security suite does not offer anything like that (for instance, do we know if the encryption is the same on every server? ... ) Also to get any Tech Details you have to send tickets and hope in a good reply from the Tech Service!  ???

:o It seems I cannot try it since for some reason (probably Win 10 not-Pro version) I have no gpedit.msc ! I tried to look and start it manually from the MMC, but got error message... :( any other ideas?

Interesting as I was just reading after Googling "Can't find gpedit.msc" and apparently, as I understand it, some systems don't have it installed (but it can be installed) and with Win 10 on some systems it can't be found.
I'm no expert on this gpedit.msc  I only started looking after Asyn's information as I also use Avast Secureline. :)

Sorry guys, I don't use W10.
But afaik, you need at least Pro for group policies.

Interesting topic :)

I use Avast SecureLine, but also other VPN's : For example Mullvad VPN, which also has a setting to protect against DNS leaks.
Strange is, that ipleak.net gives me different results for different SecureLine servers :-\

I've also used a few other good VPN services and all of them had many more settings as well as DNS settings that are not available with Secureline.
Should be more settings with Avast Secureline.

Yes I agree, SecureLine should improve.
