AMS Firewall (free version) no longer can block Facebook
« on: August 27, 2015, 06:54:22 PM »
I have a :
- Oneplus One
- with CM 12.0 (Android 5.0.2)
- AMS 4.0.7884 (I have not updated because of the reported battery issues)

I use the firewall of AMS in whitelist mode, to block unwanted connections from apps (and there are a lot)
(like why does a calculator needs to connect to facebook, or why does a battery app needs to connect to google etc...)
It worked okay until a few days...

Now, since a few days, it seems that firewall is no longer able to really block apps?
(nor AMS nor Facebook where updated)

Even when the facebook app is not allowed to use wifi, mobile data, roaming mobile data
(and I can see certain blocks in the firewall log)
I STILL get notifications from the facebook app
It still tries to send my location data, or my contacts data to facebook

anyone else experiencing the same?

Thanks

O

Hey OLCE,
thanks for letting us know about this bug. We're re-thinking our approach to firewalls, and I don't think this feature is the best way going forward. I recommend finding another approach for the time being and keeping an eye out for a new and improved solution from Avast in the future.
