GoogleUpdateSetup.exe
« on: August 28, 2015, 04:56:21 PM »
Has anyone seen a warning from Avast that a "GoogleUpdateSetup.exe" file that my system is trying to download is suspicious?   It says very few people in the global community of Avast users have encountered this file and is therefore suspicious.    But I suspect it really is from Google.   I am using MS Vista with a Chrome browser.  On the other hand my system says Chrome is up to date.   Screen shot attached.

Thanks for the reply Pondus.   I understand.    But what I don't understand is that Google reports that my Chrome is up to date.   So if Avast is blocking a Google update, how can Google report Chrome is up to date?

Thanks again Pondus.   The Chrome version on my PC is the same as yours, so no doubt it is indeed up to date.    But for a couple weeks, I have been telling Avast to NOT download the file, so I would think if that file is really from Google, my Chrome would not be up to date.

Pondus - you are correct that the file names are different, as is the origin.       But neither Avast, nor MalwareBytes find anything unusual on my system, so I am not sure what you mean: "do you want a check?"   Can you please explain your question?    Thanks for all your help!
