I'm seriously considering reverting to Windows 7 because of all the trouble I've been having, and want to know if I need to uninstall AIS to install a Win7 version.

Whilst they are the same installation file, they may have elements that differ slightly to cater for windows 10.

I don't know how the revision from win10 might go, but I would suggest a clean reinstall of avast is probably preferable.

You would need to save your avast license file so you can reuse that or have it resent. Resend avast License http://www.avast.com/resend-license-paid.php, you will need to enter the email that you used when purchasing the license, e.g. the one that the original email with the link was sent.

Maybe if you described your problem, they could be resolved so you don't need to go back .:)

Thanks for the help. I'm sorry if it sounded like I'm giving up at the first sign of trouble. I installed Windows 10 almost 4 weeks ago, and have been working on fixing the lag ever since. Every day, I search online for more help. I even created an Avast Support Ticket because some issues seemed to go away when I disabled or uninstalled AIS.

But unfortunately, nothing is fixing the crippling lag I get a few minutes after playing any offline or online game.

If I revert back to Win7, I'll use the AvastClear tool to uninstall, then do a clean install again. Thanks again!

Is it the lag at boot ?

No, this isn't lag at boot.

This is a crippling lag a few minutes after I start playing any game, online or offline.

And this is with games I've been playing for years without issue. World of Warcraft, Minecraft, etc.
