 Hello
I have a very slow computer, I only care about web browsing and security, however I don't do everything right. I' was using a old Avira antivirus verion 2012  for over three years becuase it used 15-20mgs max all the time. But support stopped. I tried Avast I think acouple of years ago. I think it was Avast 8? Anyway  i couldn't keep it because every time i clicked on my web browsers and they launched my taskmanger went up 40-70mgs and my internet was too slow. If i shut off the web guard everything was fine again. Everyone tried to help here and their screen shots were more like 20mgs or less when their web browsers were on the internet. I've been looking at the forum and it seems this trait doesn't happen anymore? Oh im using windows7 sp1. I tried three free antivirus products that i hated and then made a leap of faith? Maybe should have researched the product more, but I didn't and downloaded Webrootsecureanywhere. It was very cheap.. I'm not happy, the rankings, the tests all have it ranked very low and I'm not sure i trust it. It scans 30,000 file doing a deep root kit scan? i'm trying one more time and then if this doesn't work I'll bite my lip and stop looking. So i'm worried about the web guard and the resource usage. I plan to not install several items that i feel are not needed. but i'm doing it more for i just don't need the clutter.   I know everyones compter is different. So I'm fine with avast on idle and I'm fine if it sucks the life out of the computer scaning. Webguard? Sorry for the how long this is.

Just make a custom minimal install and you should be fine. I had hardly anything installed at first but eventually added file shield.

Select Custom install
Remove the ticks from the first page for the following unless you want them :

Dropbox
Chrome
Chrome toolbar

Select Next
Deselect the following from the middle column as you will not need them :

SecureLine
Cleanup

Select Continue and allow the programme to install

Be aware that the first reboot may take a few minutes as Avast builds the virtual machine

Avast will need to be registered as this helps them determine the server load, as updates are downloaded in small bursts every few minutes each is about 2Kb

How to register

Right click the Avast orange blob on the task bar
Select registration
Select Standard Protection

Fill in your e-mail address

Click register with e-mail address and you are done
Once registered open Avast
Go to Settings > General
Place a tick in "Scan for Potentially Unwanted Programmes (PUP's) "
Place a tick in "Silent /Gaming mode"

So unchecking these items will also reduce the ram that the software is using? as long as i can get away with my web browsers launched at 30 mgs or under. I'm sure that's impossible for anyone until i install it to know but thanks. just for laughs the reason i picked Webroot was the PC Magazine rating, the price ad it uses only 6-8mgs all the time unless I'm scanning.

No kidding the only saving grace is it was as cheap as a candy bar. But i forgot to ask, how many web browsers will avast support? I use Google chrome,Firefox, Opera, and palemoon. I let my wife use the last two. Webroot supports three out of the four. I have to say this. besides the fact that the last time i had to uninstall avast, I missed this forum. i think this is one of the best AV forums on the web.

I have Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Edge.
Avast scans all internet activity regardless of the browser you're using.

SUPER I love the forum and we will see if I can love Avast. Webroot has given me zero problems it just if they rate 15 antivirus it's the 15th.Everywhere i go if I'm searching this type of product i'm reminded that mine sucks. Yet all the Webroot pages say they are the best on the web and the users think so too. Can't tell them they are wrong because they must be brain washed. They are they best period. I can't stand it. I stay away from the forum.

Just make sure that you totally remove all traces of Webroot before you install Avast,
The guide in my signature can help you accomplish that task. :)
