Available Downstream Bandwith using Secureline VPN
« on: September 04, 2015, 01:10:36 PM »
When i test the available downstream bandwidth when connected with Avast Secureline VPN, i can´t get speed faster than 6Mbit/s. I tried another Servers in Amsterdam, Madrid, London and Paris. (Amsterdam was the faster).

In Upstream bandwidth i can reach 16 Mbit/s.

My ISP (MEO-PT) link is 100Mbit/s Downstream and 20 Mbit/s Upstream. When i disconnect the Avast Secureline VPN i have this speed from my ISP. I´ve tested with two different Bandwidth on-line Speed-meters. My ISP local speed test site qos.sapo.pt and www.speedtest.net.
The results are the same. Bad result.

If i can´t get more Downstream speed i´m going to cancel the subscription for this service. Very disappointing.

I totally agree. At home I have a download speed of 75Mbps at any time of day but when I use the VPN I'm lucky if I can download at 5Mbps. It's a huge difference

Im also having trouble. No matter which server I connect to I cannot get more than 5-6mbit and I have a connection of 30mbit. Without the VPN active I run at full speeds. I was considering this VPN service and am currently on a trial, but this doesn't look too good unfortunately. I really like avast, so im a bit dissapointed to say the least.

Lee.

If you're having issues with Secureline I would suggest all submit a 'support ticket' and supply Secureline logs with detailed explanation.
Logs found by going to C: Program Data, Avast Software, Avast, Log.  The file is secureline.txt and is the one you attach. :)

Contact Avast support:

I already raised the issue and this was my reply.......

Slowdown of the internet when SecureLine active - this is unfortunately common issue. When the SecureLine is active all the internet communication is being encrypted. This encryption/decryption process creates quite a "load" on the processor of the mobile device and in result slows the internet communication down. It´s kind of "pay for the security".

Best regards!

That is referring to the "Mobile Device" assuming that is a phone.
This is going to be different then a Computer as Processors are not comparable.

Also if you are having issues with Android etc this is the wrong forum.
Avast mobile products support for Secureline is here:https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=66.0

I'm having no problems at all with Android. Only the bandwidth when connecting through the VPN. It's not a huge issue as it's still quick enough for most things I use it for. Isn't the forum supposed to be for users to discuss the similar issues that they might be experiencing?

This forum focuses on Secureline for PC's.
No worries, I was simply offering up the 'Avast Mobile Products' forum because I believe you may be using Secureline on a phone.
The issues are/can be "different" then using Secureline on a PC (as I Mentioned)

Hi all,

One of the things we've been focusing on for the last few weeks/months is to optimize network performance.

At first, we've started with improving the actual connection setup process.  In doing so, we've been able to reduce the connection setup time by 2x and the disconnect is also much faster (due to tuning OpenVPN parameters).

Now we've shifted to the connected state experience and are looking at how to optimize the network further to deliver better upload/download speeds.  This is not a quick thing to solve, but we are focused on this and understand the importance to the user experience.
