Avast VPN using massive data suddenly

Last night I began receiving messages from my mobile data provider that I had reached my data limit, no real problem since it was only $15 for 1GB. Since last night I've received five more messages stating the same thing, so I checked my data usage and the ONLY thing on my phone now using 2.88 GB is avast VPN. This is the first time since subscribing to avast VPN that it's used that much data and all in the space of a few hours. Any ideas as to why this has happened?

Bah, nevermind, I figured out what the issue was. I must have accidently turned the wifi off. So problem solved. I would've deleted my previous post but didn't see an option to do so.
