Issue with Updates that Require a Restart
« on: September 18, 2015, 03:00:02 AM »
Hello. Not to sound upset...but I was already frustrated with things that I was doing before this happened. Avast updated and asked me to restart my computer. I wanted to finish up what I was doing and so I postponed the restart.

Unfortunately, I made the mistake to think that I could simply type on my computer and hit Enter when necessary, when Avast popped up the notification again, JUST as I hit Enter, causing my computer to restart and lose what I was typing, which wasn't particularly long, but a bit annoying to type as I was writing in multiple languages with different scripts.

My suggestion: Add a "Are you sure you want to restart now" dialog box to confirm the restart in case someone accidentally mistimes their Enter key presser or accidentally clicks on Restart when they are not ready to restart their computer.

Thanks.

There is a drop down list in that first notification about a reboot being required.

The default reminder time is 10 minutes, but that can be increased, to an hour or longer.

Yes, but increasing the reminder time to an hour or longer would not really change the issue at hand, would it? Like valisianangel said,  there is no confirmation request ("Are you sure you want to restart now?") if you inadvertly hit Enter when the Avast Restart notification pops up while you are typing on your computer.
If that happens after 10 minutes or after an hour, the issue is still there.

Sorry but the chances of something like what valisianangel describe happens very very rarely.
I personally don't see this as an issue but an unfortunate very rare incident.
Certainly not something that happens frequently enough to worry about.

Right you are, I don't see it as a big deal either, but I just said that changing the reminder time to an hour or longer wouldn't fix valisianangel's issue.
It could mitigate it, though, if you know for sure that you'll be finished with your typing in one hour or so! :)
