New Clean Up crashes my PC
« on: September 10, 2015, 11:36:55 PM »
So I purchased the 'new' Clean Up today and installed it on my HP all in one running windows 7. Each time it gets to the scan registry it will get to 99% then stop and become 'unresponsive' that will not end even when forced. Had to hard restart the system. Any ideas why?

I'm not an expert on the cleaner tool.
But I could bet that something in your Registry could be responsible for this freezing of the process.
Maybe it is not dangerous, just some "access right" to this part of the Registry.
But I'm just guessing.

Is there anything wrong with your turning off process of the computer? Is it too long?
Is there any info in Windows Events that could help us troubleshoot?

Hi, the registry scan can take few minutes to complete (depends how long computer has been used) so you can try to wait a little bit more. You should see AvastSvc is consuming one core during this process in Task Manager.
Sorry about the unresponsiveness, it's because Windows locks scanned registry for whole system to access. This will be solved in next Avast version.

I don't know whether it's the same problem I had when I had Grimefighter, it did a similar thing and I spent hours trying to solve it, by contacting Avast and submitting many tickets. In the end it turned out that Grimefirghter wasn' compatible with my HP Notebook. I've been looking to see whether this version is comaptible but can't find any information anywhere and I'm certainly not going through the agony of purchasing, then finding out it's not compatible and then trying to get my money refunded because that's what happened last time. It was a nightmare, for which I've only just recovered from some 12 months later!  8)

It is not the same thing.
GrimeFighter and CleanUp are working totally different.
GrimeFighter was Linux based and CleanUp is Windows based.

It should work without a problem and I have not even a single little indication that it doesn't ;)

The real question that you should ask yourself is :
Am I willing to pay $35 for something that can also be done manually ?

I sure love these things (sarcastic) :
- Say goodbye to leftover junk. Uninstalling doesn't remove everything.
- Win precious space back. Obsolete files make your PC sluggish.
So you need CleanUp from avast to completely remove avast because uninstall through control panel doesn't remove everything and neither does avastclear.

- Shorten your boot times. Select which programs you want to load on startup.
This can also be done with msconfig or through the registry.
