Mail Shield Problem
« on: September 14, 2015, 11:15:12 AM »
AVAST 10.3.222.5
Running on Windows 7 on 64 bit Desktop 16G RAM Intel Core I5 CPU
Also running COMODO firewall
Today Avast started showing problem Icon 'Not all shields working' , but nothing was showing up in the control panel.
Then I noticed that my mail app Windows Live mail wasn't picking up messages.
And It did seem that the mail shield was not working.
Nothing I tried worked so I did Uninstall/ Re-install with the latest version (clean up with CCleaner in between).
After uninstall my mail worked again.
But after re-installing the problem was still there, I was now able to turn off the faulting mail shield.
But Windows live mail is still blocked.

Also it gets stuck in a re-start computer loop!

and even after uninstalling with the removal tool in safe mode and re-installing the problem persists.

Wonder if Comodo is blocking the Mailshield ???

Cheers Bob I was thinking the same thing so I looked in the Comodo Logs and there were a lot of Avastsvc (etc) related intrusion events. I went through and changed all the Avast related settings to 'allowed application'. Turned off Comodo's Viruscope and cleared all the application rules. This in itself didn't clear the Mail shield problem.
But I went into Avast and did 'Reset defaults', then did a restart and now its working again. :D
Don't know why this should happen Avast is in Comodo's 'Trusted Vendors' List.
I will highlight this on the Comodo Forum.

Why do you not use the Windows internal firewall?
It works fine, and it does it's job.

Glad you problem is solved.
Like stibi, I'm quite happy with the Windows Firewall and I never seem to run into these types of problems. :)
