As Vlk said many times, avast! 5.0 won't be released any time soon, most probably not before Windows Vista release and even then it's not sure if they'll really release it.
I belive they'll have to start saying like ESET and 3DRealms guys: "It's done when it's done!" They'll probably release beta first and we might even get some "insider" info from Alwil team even before that. Who knows, they'll surprise us for sure.

avast 5.0, as promissed, will be released after Windows Vista see the light...
avast after huge implements and features added is having now a low curve of improvements.
I think the surprises will come but not precisely with avast 5.0 or into the antivirus market.

Which will be the next version?  4.7?
Where version the new icons will be?
It would be very good if it changed the appearance, and was placed the new icons.  because others anti-virus has a beautiful appearance, and for avast is only lacking this to be best.

Joooo ... avast can be "skinned" to change how the program interface appears. In fact, the avast! web site has skins listed just for this reason ... not everyone likes the stock look.    :)

I dont really understand this. Are the Avast Team planning to Release 4.7, 4.8, 4.9, and then Release 5.0?

And Happy ThanksGiving to ALL!!!

Avast home needs improvements in the detection of virus and spywares, and more speed the scaning of archives, therefore who uses dialed internet complains that it becomes to devagar with web shield.

Is there any news on Vista support? I am running the beta of Vista, and Avast does not work - I have to uninstall it. I am on 4.6.691, I assume that's the latest...

The latest version is 4.6.731 --> http://www.avast.com/eng/av4_revision_history.html
And as far as I know the latest version works with Windows Vista.

Even older version works on Vista but has problems here and there. Latst 731 should work perfectly as far as i know.
One thing that i really admire from Alwil is their fast adopting of new OS-es.
They were the first for x64 platform and probably again first for Vista.

Alwil is the first antivirus for U3 plataform.
McAfee seems to have paid more for adds  :P

Aside from continually repeating yourself, these are things which I think the Alwil team constantly strive for, so I doubt that they need continual prompting.

I connect by dial-up and have absolutely no problem using web shield. Perhaps a different browser may speed things up. There are lots of potential reasons for poor dial-up connection and download speed, the ISP and the contention ratio (the number of users effectively sharing the connection) for starters.
