You've tried going into Safe Mode With Networking and then rebooting ??? May need to do that more than once.  :'(

My system starts with the Windows Bootmgr. so I can simply select F5 to get to safe mode instead of selecting the OS.

For the record, for those that were having complete computer freezing problems with 2225, this update does not appear to solve the problem. The freezing still occurs. I have been holding out on reverting back to 2218, but the freezing is a huge issue (I know Avast is the cause because I never freeze when I disable all shields).

The freeze problems discussed here related to those using Windows 10 Insider Preview Release Build 10547.

Actually, I was talking about the problem busp1 had that is affecting Windows Vista and Windows XP users. I am not using Windows 10. This was a problem that only popped up starting with 2225 (for some it started with 2223). For me it started on 8/12/2015 when 2225 was installed.

In case it helps troubleshooting: I am using Vista SP2 Business 32Bit, Intel Core 2 Duo E4300, 2GB RAM. I have the latest Chrome version installed and use it as a primary browser. I have a very old Firefox 3.0.19 installed for development use, but it doesn't only freeze when using it (so the theory it has to do with Firefox interaction is incorrect).

There has also been a problem with all versions after 2218 on Vista machines. Computer freezes, keyboard and mouse are unresponsive. Must revert back to 2218 for a stable system.

It gives me the greatest of pleasure to be able to say that AVAST 2015 R4 (2015.10.4.2233) runs on my 13 year-old Windows XP PC and is the first version of Avast to be able to do this since 2015.10.2.2215.  A big thank you to the Avast developers.

 :)

Considerable disappoinment: Mozilla Thunderbird 38.3.0 malfunctions with AVAST 2015 R4 (2015.10.4.2233) on at least one Windows XP SP3 system so it's back to good old reliable Avast 2015.10.2.2015 which just works well and without problems.

 :(

Postscript: There is a fix advised in a forum post.

@ maeva,
Looks like a corrupt installer.

Try a repair. If that doesn't work, Download the product from here:
