Restarting after using Repair?
« on: September 22, 2015, 12:39:30 AM »
I tried to solve a weird issues I've been having with a speed test I like to use by repairing my Avast product.

It didn't work.

Is restarting something I have to do when using the repair feature? My internet seems to be fine I'm just kind of worried that I need to restart my computer.

If someone can answer this I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Whilst there is no hard and fast rule on that, however, if a repair has been made to an area such as replacing a corrupt file or a shield function. Then it could take a restart for the file/function to be reactivated, given it is such a low hassle factor to reboot it is a general advisory that is give.

As is said in many general computer related problems, the most common question is have you tried rebooting.

Given you are experiencing "a weird issues I've been having with a speed test" it would be nice to know what this weird issue is ?
I'm not sure a repair and reboot is likely to have an effect with something not on the local system, hense my question above.

I have just run a check on my system (signature below) and that is about what I would expect from my connection.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.2.6105 (build 24.2.8918.824) UI 1.0.799/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Well I already shut down the computer I did this on. Did I just make things worse by doing that?

Also:

^^^This is the speedtest I like because it's from my ISP. It keeps skipping the Jitter test.

Well it still skipped the jitter test whatever that is.

For me the latency is cr4p as is the download speed, but that is hardly surprising given that your ISS is many thousands of miles away.

This is why we generally use the default speedtest.net check as that finds the closest server, so less hops to get to your system.

EDIT: typo
