hmm.... I cannot realy answer the question about what anti-spam is good becouse of most e-mail clients like Foxmail (my fav. for USB stick) has build in antispam functions. Some of them I think can also update ruls for spam detection.
In that case vote Other.

PopTray - Been using it for years and see no reason to change.

A few of it's features........

      * Unlimited number of Accounts
      * Quickly preview a message
      * Delete messages from the server without downloading them
      * Spam management using rules and white/black lists
      * Low resource usage

.....and more

Spamihilator and SpamPal have them too  8)
After testing a lot of programs, Spamihilator seems to me the more flexible one. Anyway, it will be an user taste...

Tech,

Just out of curiosity....do you currently use Spamihilator?  If so, what is the resource utilization (RAM)?

I ask because even though I see no reason to change from what I am currently using I am not opposed to change, if it is for the better.

Yes. I'm using it.
Resources depends on how many plugins do you use, how often email is checked.
Spamihilator does not use RAM while not checking email.
For me, receiving email, CPU goes from 0 to 26% lows down to 13% and then to 0%. Some seconds.
Virtual memory could be 13Mb. It's not few... but, for me, RAM is not the problem. CPU is what delays, the crucial point.

Thanks Tech.  I'll read up on the program some more.  I might try it on a spare machine just to see how it does.

Been using PopTray along with K9.  SPAM is deleted automatically from the server when mail is checked.  K9 results for my desktop is 98.92% of SPAM is caught and deleted, it's 99.42% for my notebook.  K9 finds the SPAM when mail on the server is checked with PopTray, a rule in PopTray has it deleted from the server.  I only have a few rules in PopTray, and a few for Outlook Express, my mail is clean as can be.

Along the same line as Tecnical question:
If you intend to create an "All-In-One Security Suite" then please make sure it contains
individually selected moduals. That way the user can choose his/her own mix.
If it's an all inclusive package, it will turn ou to be another "System Hog"
I have dumped many of them in my time.
I'd like avast! NOT to be among them.
Thanks.

No doubt in my mind that PopTray does a splendid job. Been using it for a very long time without so much as a glitch. Using vs. 3.2 now.  ;)

I sniff avast! turning into bloatware... is it possible ? I mean, just like Tech said, all these questions are nothing but pure reserach surveys... you check what people like and then you decide much easier what to offer in your next package.

I don't find Spam a problem. As a rule of thumb I only use my "private" e-mail address (to  outlook express)  for 100% trusted people / companies. My ISP seems to have things under control. To view any pics. in mail have to click on the header, plus after all I have Avast! Mail scanner. ;) I use a hotmail account for anything else. If Spam becomes a problem I'll just open another Hotmail or Yahoo account.I've never had to do so though as their spam filters work fine . I hope this poll isn't heralding changes to Avast's stance on mail scanning. Alls well this end Vik !

My situation is almost exactly the same as Abraxas's. I have a good ISP whose filters work most of the time. I use "disposable" accounts for anyone not trusted 100%.
I might look at anti-spam software if I had major problems with spam, however.

As i have my own mail server I'm in the lucky situation to do spam filtering on server side - best free one I have found here ist spamassassin - and I have no need for client side spam filtering.
