When researching this problem, the same configuration of system was found.

Windows 10, on MSI Apache Pro 242, Norton factory install removed with Norton removal tools.

Problem encountered upon installing Avast Free:
1) System will not boot unless by passing digital signature signing.
2) Issue resolves when UNINSTALLING Avast.
3) Issue only returns when attempting to "redownload" and install Avast.
4) Used avast removal tool and "redownloaded" x3.

I have been using Avast for a long time, have it on almost all my devices.
I am using Avast on other Windows 10 implementations without issues myself.
But seeing more and more issues with Avast/Win10, this being my most frustrating at this point.

I may just not be able to use Avast on this system!-(

Just got a new Laptop, and I'm hitting the same issue.  The new laptop is an MSI GT72.  This problem appears to be specific to MSI laptops.  And it's not just the BSOD.  If I choose to ignore the driver signature error and continue with booting, I then see other problems.  The Killer AC1525 wireless connection becomes unstable.  There are other issues, but the list is unimportant.  I've cleanly removed Norton, and tried many installs (Beta through older releases) and can't get past this issue.  It's not worth the time to dig any deeper.  It's a shame; on this laptop - I won't be using Avast.

So when you navigate to the file in question (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\aswVmm.sys), rightclick on it and choose "Properties" - is there the "Digital Signatures" tab there?
If so, what happens when you select the line with "Avast Software" and click on "Details"?

I had already uninstalled Avast.  Reinstalled the beta version since I still had the download, and it's from AVAST and not CNET.
