General Complaints/Suggestions?
« on: June 29, 2015, 09:31:07 AM »
Hi,
First of all, I could not find the proper place for this so I guess here is as good as a place as any.

I have had avast for a few years now, and over that time I have found a couple of things that I would like fixed or at least to generally complain about them ;)

1. The big one, Avast (both Pro & free) has NEVER detected a virus that I can plainly see*. I have pointed Avast straight at the offending file/s and it gives it the all clear! Just so I am clear, Avast has certainly found plenty of viruses on my computer over the years, but viruses that I can actually see running in the task bar or processors are ignored. WHY?! You may be saying 'Boot scan' right now, but in every case I have had, Avast either doesn't find it, or does find it but can do absolutely nothing about it (not even skip). So I eventually do all the manual work removing it myself. *There was only 1 instance that Avast might have done something. I was manually removing a virus (can't remember what it was called), and the screen went black for a second, suddenly Avast window was open and all trace of the virus was gone. I was sceptical for days, but it was gone.

This is the reason I stopped buying Avast.(I use free now) I am aware that Avast no doubt saved me many more troubles by stopping other viruses before they were able to run.
Before you go on asking if I scanned like this and like that and reported and all that, yes.

2. Avast often pops up with it's own optimize/clean up programs that LIE!Yes, just now in fact, Avast Browser Clean-up jumps up with big bold red letters saying I have a browser add-on that is bad. Close that and go to the scan for browser add-ons and "browsers appear to be free from add-ons that have a bad reputation". Well then why lie to me a second ago? This happens A LOT. Claims everything is wrong in a popup, says everything is fine in the program window.

And that was all I had to complain about, until I came onto these forums.

3. Where to post complaints like this? Why is the only obvious place on the forums for the community to see? Where is the suggestions/complaints tab? Frankly the fact that it is not easy to find (if it exists at all) is pretty poor. I tried searching 'complaint' to be met with a mess of results that did not even point me to an official post that would tell me the way, instead that showed one or two complaints made by other uses, which brings me to 4

4. The few posts from actual Avast employees?/moderators? the attitude has been basically 'not our fault, you have not told us enough so it's all your fault' etc. That is disgraceful. You sell an anti-virus, you give them away for free, but have no patience for people who don't know everything about computers, your program, & viruses.
Oh, and I don't care if the support is outsourced to a different company. It is still your brand, it is still your responsibility

You might be wondering why, after years of having Avast, I have decided to say this now? I guess bad day coupled with Avast popping up with lies & failing to detect a viruses last week.

All that said though, it is free

1. What do you mean by  virus?
i suspect you are talking about PUP / Possible Unwanted Program. Avast PUP detection is default off except in BootScan, so you need to turn it on if you want PUP detection

No security program have 100% detection
All virus is Malware, but all Malware is not virus    ;)      Virus =  https://www.virusbtn.com/resources/glossary/virus.xml

A great extra scanner that target PUP is Malwarebytes (free or payed)    https://www.malwarebytes.org/

2. You can remove modules you dont like
Avast 2015: Change, add, or remove individual program components  https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB96#artTitle

3. You may post complaints here  https://support.avast.com/

1. No not a PUP lol. Yes those too but I did research and discovered that fact awhile ago. I mean those processes that run using all your RAM, ones that slow computer etc.
And yes fair enough no anti-virus is 100% effective, but I am talking 0(or maybe 1?) for about 15 that I think it should have detected. I  admit I don't know much about how exactly an antivirus works, but I shouldn't have too.

2. Ok? so can I remove the lies? No? I think you missed the point there

3. How do you think I got here? FAQ is no help. I don't want to submit a support ticket, I don't need customer or technical support, do I? and I am not reporting malware. So that leaves Avast Forum, so here it is ;)

Besides, what would be the chances of ever hearing back from an outsourced support company from something like this?

1. Would you like a malware expert to check your computer?

If so, see instructions here     https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
Attach malwarebytes and farbar recovery scan tool logs ..... 3 logs total

When done a malware expert will assist you and remove any crap he find. He will also remove the tools used when done

Well that's actually very helpful, thanks. I did just re-format my drive a few days ago, so I think I am clean for now, but I will definitively try that if I have troubles again

and guess it was a good thing I posted here after all ;)
