Need help with Dymo CardScan & Avast
« on: October 08, 2015, 10:04:27 PM »
Hello! I have found that Avast {Free} is stopping the Dymo CardScan .COM plug-in for Outlook 2003 under Windows XP SP3 {yes, I'm running legacy software, so I need the old stuff} from running.  I've added the Cardscan folder path to the exclusion list, as well as "adxregistrator.exe" and "cspreload.exe" to the Deepscan and Hardened Mode exclusion lists.  I still can't get the .COM to load. I was wondering if anyone else had any additional suggestions for me?

Thank you.

It would appear the site is offline.

Hi - sorry for the confusion -- I wasn't referencing an actually website, but a '.com' Outlook plug-in from Dymo's cardscan software. - Al

Sorry, my mistake. Which numeric version of Avast Free are you using?

You're welcome. Why do you feel Avast is blocking the plugin? Do you get any pop-up? What happens if you disable all shields in Avast?

Hi Simion  - I isolated it to Avast, since when I disabled the file system shield, I was able to get it to work.  At this point, I scanned in my stack of business cards with the file system shield off, thus completing the task, and then re-enabled it. So as to not waste anyone's time in the forum, that was the 'quick and dirty' fix - and while it was off, I made sure not to click on any foreign '.exe' files :)  Thanks again for your help. - Alfred.

You're welcome, Alfred. It seems strange that you're not getting an alert from Avast, but try adding the exclusion(s) as per the page below. Afterwards. be sure to disable all shields, then immediately re-enable them.
