RPC error when re-registering
« on: August 18, 2015, 09:39:04 AM »
I am trying to renew my subscription to avast!'s free edition. After entering my email address at the registration step, the error message "The AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error." What does this mean?

This often indicate that you have more then one antivirus installed, or leftover files from previous used AV .... do you?

I have Malwarebytes anti-malware installed. I never had an issue with this in the past … Do I need to uninstall Malwarebytes to continue to use Avast?

NO ... Malwarebytes is not a antivirus and should work fine with avast

it is a long time since you started this post, but if you still have that problem?

see instructions here  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
scroll down to the second picture ... Farbar Recovery Scan Tool ... run it as instructed and attach the two diagnostic logs

see below the box you write in ... Attachments and other options

I am not sure why I should run download and run Farbar Recovery Scan Tool; the issue I am having is with registering Avast.

Can I get Avast activated by uninstalling and then installing a newly-downloaded version of the .exe file?

Control Panel > Programs and Features > avast antivirus - Change - from the next screen select Repair and OK your way back out.

I ran the repair, but I still cannot get Avast background service to run. Each time I click on Start now, I continue to get the message "Avast background service is not running," which I believe is the root of the issue.
