Scan of memory/hard disk at reboot
« on: March 20, 2003, 09:47:32 AM »
Hi all,

when installing Avast4 Home Edition on my Windows 2000 Professional Workstation, I choosed the option to scan the memory and hard disks at each reboot ... now I want to disable that but I can't find a way to do so ... any idea ?

(for info, the scanning takes place before the login prompt of Windows 2000 in a CMD box)

Thanks in advance,

Really? It runs at every boot?

I mean, after you schedule the boot-time scan, it does its job, and that's it -- it should NOT start at the next boot. Or it does??  ???

yes it does. I just tested now.

Boot, Avast doing the scan, shutdown and restart, reboot, Avast doing the scan again ...  ???

Please start regedt32.exe, navigate to

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

and check the value "BootExecute".
It contains the list of programs executed at boot. Is aswBootNt.exe listed? If it is, mere deleting of the appropriate line should do the trick.

Meanwhile, I'll try to check what's really going on -- why it actually stays there...

Thanks,

OK. One more thing: could you please send me the file <avast4>\data\log\aswBootNt.log ?

Maybe it'll tell us more...

Thanks
