« on: December 02, 2005, 02:23:49 PM »
When I install avast, I can log on to the internet with my AOL, but my Internet Explorer does not work. I keep getting web page not found. When I uninstall avast everything works fine. Any ideas???

Which firewall are you using?
Did you allow ashWebSv.exe to connect the Internet into your firewall settings?
If you disable the Web Shield provider (into avast On-access providers settings) will you be allowed to connect the Internet?

Can you see if this link could help you on understanding webshield working?

HI

You may have discovered what I did. With webshield running, you can not "search" from the address bar.

That is, you cannot type in, for example "avast"(without the quotes). If you notice, when you do that, right above the clock, you should see LOCAL INTRANET. Intranet being the key word. It is just that, a local network. Your "search" request won't be found there.

To use your browser (IE6), when you type in an address you can do one of the following
1. type the full address ....www.avast.com
2. type the address you want with the .com , .ca , etc
   avast.com      ebay.ca

You should be alright.  Please post back whether or not this helps. Hope I'm on the right track as your post was a little vague. ;D
