Thank you to all that said that there may be an issue with WebShieldSgn.htm. Turns out the file contained raw html that was glitching. I made a backup of that file and cleared out the original. problem gone (for now)

I don't have the "Mail Shield" installed.  When I open Settings, there's no Mail Shield options.  Someone said that this wording has been inserted into outgoing e-mails for the past several Avast versions.  I often Blind Courtesy Copy (BCC:) myself into e-mails I send,  but I've never seen the "This Computer is Guaranteed to be Virus Free by AVAST" wording before this month's update.

Anyway, since I'm using the FREE version, my leverage on this issue is extremely limited.  So I'll just register this as formal user complaint, and move on.  Thanks to everyone for your input and suggestions!

-Allen

I just barely updated to the latest and greatest version of Avast. I use Avast everywhere.

I followed the instruction to change the settings in the Mail Sheild> behavior. I click okay and exit. I send myself a test email...the footer is still there. I open Avast back up and the box is checked again. I un-check it, click okay, exit and send myself a test email...the footer is still there. I open Avast back up and it is checked again, I un-check it, click okay and exit. I open it back up again and it is checked...again.

Remind me again what the definition of insanity is?

So how do you turn it off if it's just going to turn it back on again?

To make matters extremely worse, the Avast line is being put above my own personal signature. That is the worst place for it. It looks like the email wasn't even from me!

Have you stopped and restarted the Mail Shield, as I think that is required to take effect.

You don't say what that version is 11.1.2245 which has only recently been released as that has another option if you didn't have the mail shield.

You also don't say if this is Gmail (webmail) like that of the OP or regular email.

Avast version: 11.1.2245
Webmail: Google mail in Chrome browser
I tried what you suggested. It didn't work. The same thing happened even with the Mail Shield turned off. I unchecked clean message outgoing clicked okay and exited. I then went back in and the box was checked again, even though the service wasn't even active.

Same problem - no matter how many times I change the Avast setting to eliminate the Avast signature/credit, it keeps appearing in my outgoing Gmail.

I have looked for Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\1033\WebShieldSgn.htm
I don't have a directory Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\1033\
I have found a file called WebShieldSgn.htm in directory 2057 - what should I do with it? Will it fix this problem?

Does anyone have any other ideas? This is silly.

I'm with @enochcc on this - the very definition of insanity.

The number (e.g.1033) depends on the installed/chosen language.

Perform a repair of avast and see if the problem is solved.
If not, perform a clean installation and check again.

I've got the latest version: 11.1.2245
I've turned off the email auto-advert in the general settings AND in the active protection mail shield.

My EmailShield.ini says:
InsertNoteCleanMsgIn=0
InsertNoteCleanMsgOut=0
InsertNoteInfectedMsgIn=0

and yet I'm STILL getting this advert inserted into my emails (gmail accessed via web). How do I stop it?

Have you stopped and restarted avast shields or rebooted for the settings to take effect.

If not that will hopefully allow the settings to take effect.

In build 2245, uncheck: Settings -> General -> Enable Avast email signature

That worked for me.

On 2 of my computers I was having the problem.
