Still using 2015.10.2.2218
« on: November 10, 2015, 07:00:57 PM »
All recent versions seem problematic. Check this site regularly. It looks like each update is an invitation to hours of troubleshooting, uninstalling and reverting to a stable version.

Am running WIN 7 Pro, 64-bit. What's the consensus on the latest update?

Hmm well I started with 4.2 on windows XP  have now progressed to windows 10 and the latest release (2016)

In all that time the only problem I had was with zone alarm and 4.4 I believe which was resolved in a few days

Don't lose site of the fact that this is a support forum, not many come to say they haven't had any problems.

I'm running it on an old system with XP Pro SP3, whilst I have some minor issues (which have improved or aren't as frequent). No real issues on my win7 SP1 netbook, other than it somewhat lacking in resources, meaning it is slow at times even when avast isn't using much in the way of resources.

I have been using avast for eleven and a half years now (avast 4.2 or 4.3 I can't recall) and no major issues that would cause me to look for another option or use an older version of avast. I have taken part in all but one beta testing session (was on dial-up and would have had to download the full installation file).

Generally I would advise a custom install (for virtually any software) and select what elements of avast you want to install.

Agreed. Updates have been mostly problem-free, except for the one after 2015.10.2.2218. Avast IS ran successfully, but some Windows functionality (chkdsk, etc) was crippled on WIN 7, though NOT on WIN 8.1. Strange.

Anyway, now I always check here before updating, perform an Acronis backup, and then update. The latest update went fairly well. Cautiously optimistic.

Thanks all, for the replies.
