STDIN/STDOUT mode?

What is the STDIN/STDOUT mode and how do you use this within a shell script?

Yes, that was helpful.  The following is from the Avast Man pages:

Code: [Select]
It also supports a special stdin/stdout mode which makes it work as a fil‐
       ter (pipe).

OPTIONS
Mandatory arguments to long options are  mandatory  for  short  options
       too.

       -_, --console
              work in stdin/stdout (filter) mode

So, I am assuming this can be used for scanning incoming email piped through a shell script.  Neither the Man pages nor the AvastGUI Help is informative enough to give me a better idea on how to make it work or use it for something like on that Kmail thread I started on this forum.  Tech, is there any Avast staff working on the Avast Linux project or is it something they sort of do on the side?

Personally, I think the Man pages should be posted as a sticky on this forum since it is only a few pages long.  The Man pages could be a little more instructive than informative.  The informative part is already there.  It's the instructions that is lacking.   The Help menu for AvastGUI is fine.  But it is only for AvastGUI and doesn't give anything for Konsole command line use of the program.

It doesn't appear to be a priority.  Avast for Linux is not quite there yet.  The GUI is nice and it seems to work fine but the documentation is poor and needs more work.   I'll move on.  There doesn't seem to be much interest in testing.  Especially, if there is only one person working on it and one user asking questions.   Oh, well.

Check ya out later, Techie! ;)
