Data use by Avast
« on: December 01, 2015, 08:29:16 PM »
I'm looking at my Activity Monitor and see that com.avast.proxy is moving a whole lot of data both directions. What is it doing?

Please do not comment on stuff you don't know about. I know you are an "Avast for Windows expert", but the Mac product is really different.
For example in this case you cause a very negative confusion for the user as he might thing that we download megabytes of streaming updates
which is not true. Thanks.

com.avast.proxy is the web/mail shield process. What you see is the traffic that goes trough it, i.e. all the web & mail traffic.
As the operating scheme is, like the name suggests a proxy, you see all the traffic twice - the one part is only virtual (local) on your
computer.
