Endpoint Protection Program Update : Beta Release
« on: November 26, 2015, 11:34:21 AM »
Hello Everyone,

We are happy to announce the beta version for the upcoming program update for Endpoint Protection Client, Small Office Administration console and Enterprise Administration console is finally here.  We must first thank you ALL for your continued support and patience with us while we have been developing and  upgrading these product.

Compared to some of our previous Beta releases, this one is unique because the product itself is a merge of two avast products (ver.8+ver.10) .  We encourage you to begin testing as soon as possible to help us identify any potential bugs or issues before our official release date, which is set to 9th of December.

The updates include:

1. Windows 10 compatibility
2. Win XP VPS update issue fix
3. Behavior Shield functionality is now part of File system shield
4. Enterprise Administration DB updates
5. New Firewall and Mail Shield

And Many other minor tweaks and fixes

**There is no restriction on this public beta however please note that this should be used in testing environments as this is not a final release and you may experience unexpected results.

For many of you who have issues with Windows 10 compatibility I would recommend that you install the managed client for your specific product line of Endpoint to protect your clients and then once the official program update is available to update your console's and then push out the new client via a new installation or a program update.

Of course, you will not have to redeploy once the official console updates have been released.  You will only need to update your console either by downloading the installer over the current or by updating via the control panel as you may have done in the past.  Once the console has been updated, then you can push out the new program update to all of our clients.

Those of you who have an XP VPS Update issue, I recommend that you do the same until the final release version is available for the console.

There are some things you should know which are already known issues:

1. Settings may apply to managed computer with delay
2. Firewall may require additional restart
3. The Console reports may show Win 10 as Win 8

Installing the Beta

1. Updates require new installation or program update of managed EP client.
2. **Update initiates automatic computer restart after the installation/update is finished.

SOA is still with Silverlight, will stay like that as replacing it would mean a complete redesign. Would probably be easier to build a new console actually.

E. g. it's not working in 64-bit browsers (excluding MSIE)?

Links at first post to SOA - without mirror distributive. I see at test PC that mirror can't be downloaded at installation of SOA more than 1 hour (internet speed 18 mbps), please give links to beta with mirror already in. Or you don't have?

Yes, if browser *64 (Chrome, FireFox) - will not work. But, I don't know PCs with windows where you can not see installed IE.
Thx God that avast do this beta. No matter that him use silverlight for SOA.

Hello,

i ask because chrome an ff has put silverlight on the blacklist and it will end in the near future, also adobe flash.... I Know it works with a workaround or only with IE but it is no more the state of art.

See end of life Microsoft silverlight and also edge browser from Microsoft....

VPS issue hasn't been fixed here as well. WXP + Avast EP. Clean install doesn't help (after avastclear), manually running vpsupd says everything's up to date.

I installed the SOA BETA on my Windows Server 2012r2. Seems to work OK, I didn't note any differences from earlier versions. I still can not access the SOA using a browser on the server itself (no change from previous versions). When accessed from a Domain Network client, using MSIE 11, the local (client) Avast! EPSP BETA would disconnect (as reported on the SOA) after about 10 seconds. I could log off and reconnect and the same action would happen. I understand this is but a BETA, I was expecting better. Use of Edge browser must be made to work, otherwise I don't accept Avast! SOA as being compatible with Windows 10.

Avast! EPSP BETA was installed on two Windows 10 laptops, again I didn't note any big differences from earlier versions except it was allowed to work with the Windows 10 operating system. After a couple days I removed the Avast! EPSP BETA because it was blocking connectivity to my wireless network HP printer. Disabling Avast! EPSP and the printer could be found on the network again and made to function. Again, I understand this is a BETA but I'm disappointed.

I have installed the Free Avast! software on these two laptops until the SOA and EPSP software is greatly improved.
