only scan available under scan for viruses is boot time scan
« on: November 27, 2015, 10:29:54 PM »
Just updated to your newest program on laptop and desktop.  My desktop only has boot time scan available under the scan for viruses.  My laptop has 5 different options available including quick scan, full system scan, removable media scan, select folder to scan, and boot-time scan.
any idea what the reason is for that?

thx

XP
Avast free antivirus
program 11.1.2241
virus def 151127-1

Also when I ran the boot time scan it seemed to just run a full scan.  I then restarted and I believe booted right to desktop with no further scanning.  Maybe I misunderstand what boot time scan is but thought that happened on start up

Assuming that both have the same version and presumably this option was available in the previous version of avast ?

If so:
Try an avast Repair - Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > Avast antivirus > Change - in the next window select the Repair option. OK your way out and reboot.

You didn't answer this question "presumably this option was available in the previous version of avast ?"
e.g. all the scans that are available from the drop down list on the other system.

If so and the Repair didn't work the next step is to do a clean reinstall.

Looks like you are left with a clean reinstall.

As you can see from my signature I'm using XP Pro SP3 and no issues with the display of all available scans from the drop down list. See attached image - whilst this may be cosmetically a little different as I'm running the latest beta version.

I know it has more options because it is available on my laptop which has XP also.  Just wondered why my desktop didn't.  Thought maybe I had something "checked " that shouldn't be.

There are no settings that would effect the list, that is why my suggestions are based on what you can try, there is clearly something wrong in your installation and a repair didn't resolve it. So I gave you the next option.
