How to block popup ads that open a new web page?
« on: November 28, 2015, 12:06:42 AM »
For example www.driversupport.com. Adding these sites to the Avast blocking list has no effect. These ads also drag Internet performance down to the point it can take 5 to 10 minutes to load additional web pages.

Please break that live link as wxw.driversupport.com. We do not want others to be infested by clicking live links.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!

What's bad is installing the product offered at the site. Visiting the site alone doesn't pose any danger. IMHO

Hi bob3160,

It is not for nothing that it comes flagged by WOT´s. With a decent adblocker and script blocker the adtracking there can be blocked, but there is reason to be careful. It has been flagged before, so I would be cautious. To/day you would not know what could give you a nice adware or crap infection. Users do not count and the income streams should continue to flow...so trust only what you have checked yourself.
I think you have not opened the WOT report for the domain and read the reports there, most of those users know what they are on about. To/day I hardly trust a downloader for instance... ;)

On the contrary, it's because I read the remarks that I made my comments. Again, going to that website will not infect your system.

It may not right out infect your computer, but why it has a bad WOT web reputation then. Reports say suspicious and not trust it. There must be a reason for these ratings...

Flowergardener,
the site doesn't have popups and does not open other web-pages.
Their software however does come with what are at least PUP's.

I suggest you follow the instructions in the sticky at the top of this forum and attach the log files to your next post.

I have no intention of clicking on these popup ads. I just want to block the links to them so they don't come up. I have looked at the scripts on the web pages that contain these links. There are a half dozen or more ad links buried right in the scripts.

These links slow down my computer to a crawl. Percent CPU usage goes to 100% when I visit various news sites including MSN and Yahoo.

I have started entering these links to the blocking list of my antivirus programs. But there are too many to catch them all. I tried and ad block program but that didn't help much.

Will someone recommend an ad blocking program?

I'll check out your suggestion to follow the instructions in the sticky.
