security centre
« on: December 09, 2005, 06:12:49 AM »
I had uninstalled avast to try out a new security suite. The uninstall was done properly and the system was rebooted before installing the new software. Surprisingly security centre went on rporting that avast was protecting my computer. The aswclear tool also did not help.
However I went on using the new suite without any problem as I felt that the uninstall process had been completed.
I have since then uninstalled the new suite.
Surprisingly, security centre again was notifying me that avast was protecting my computer but it was out of date.
Thankfully, after reinstalling and updating avast everything is fine.
Can someone explain this behaviour of security centre?

It will be better if we know which is your new security suite...
Anyway, it's strange that the Security Center was informing avast as protecting your computer after unininstalling it.
Are you using the Administrator account or a common user account?

In fact I was trying out bit defender. I am using the adminstrator account.
I also found it very strange and that is the reason for posting it.

The free or the paid version?
The free version has not a resident shield, so it won't be detected by Security Center. It's only for on-demmand scannings and not for protection you as antivirus.
