Am I Infected
« on: November 30, 2015, 11:18:14 PM »
I wanted to remove 3 items in my avast shopping cart but could not find a edit icon,so clicked on a link for Avast support by putting in to my browser "Avast support " rang the number and spoke to an american sounding man, he said he would sort it out, 5 minutes later my husband answered the phone and an american sounding chap said he was from Avast and would need to take control of the computer, stupidly we let him.
At the top of the window he opened it said " GuruAid" I felt uneasy. He downloaded
MSEssentials, and said i did not need Avast and Malwarebytes, and if we paid £80 he would put a different A/Virus on.My husband demanded he give him back control of my pc NOW,  which he did right away. But afterwards it was strange. The background was black instead of blue and an icon appeared in the task bar of an indians head wearing a turban. Plus every time I turned on the pc a box appeared top rt hand corner headed GuruAid and the head of the indian, with options  and at the bottom " a technician will be with you soon " I removed the tick from allow remote assistance connections to this computer.
Don,t allow connections is already marked.Once I had done this everything went back to normal , or is it?
i have done a full system scan with my free Avast programme and a malware bytes scan with free MB.They found nothing wrong! I also have malwarebytes anti exploit free programm
Please do I have any key loggers or some one watching to come in the backdoor.
How do I know.
Tiggie

Thank you both, Eddy and dbrisendine . While I was out my husband took my computer to a computer shop and had it fixed. I was busy running around getting our cards changed phone numbers etc.
So i am resolved.
I raise  a glass to you and all the Avast team, we are so lucky to have you.

To a store?
That sounds like he paid money.
If that is so, get a divorce and find yourself a better husband.
He could (should?) have spend the money on you  ;D
Help here is free!

We do not work for avast, we are users just like you.
But several of us do know our way around when it comes to computers.
Personally I have 33+ year experience, both hardware and software.

You can recognize avast members by the "avast team" underneath their name.

If you want a checkup (to see if the store did a proper job), attach the log files to your next post and let us have a look.
It only cost you a little time, it is free and certainly doesn't hurt ;)

Dear Eddy, sorry for the delay in getting back to you but have been away for a few days, pre amas visiting.
It was,nt that my husband had no faith in you,  he knew I was stressed out and wanted to give me a surprise. and wait for it ........I am getting a laptop for xmas, so perhaps this pc could be taken back to factory settings and used for gaming  I will never feel the same about  it whoever had fixed it.It does seem back to normal now I must admit
Thankyou
