802.11ac-5GHz compatibility
« on: December 02, 2015, 12:50:08 AM »
Is there a way to get a Atheros AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi adapter - to be compatible with 802.11ac and the 5 GHz range?
(perhaps a drive update or some other way, though I can't find it for a HP computer on their website after entering the PC model number.)

If your WiFi adapter doesn't have both channels (and antennas, etc.) then I don't believe any software update will change that.

Not possible.
You will need other hardware.

It seems as though only the very latest and newest devices have 802.11ac-5GHz compatibility. Even PCs and smart phones from the last few years don't have it (not to mention older PCs from before that).

Question is how old is your PC and if it's a desktop or laptop.

Ehmen, as most of your questions aren't related to Avast at all, I suggest to ask in a general tech forum.

5 years old this one in question though I've done much older systems, I believe I did say it was a laptop.

As Asyn has mentioned you should bring these questions up in a general tech forum, even a search on how to install a Wi-Fi/Blutooth card should supply you the necessary information.

Hmm, this is the "General Topics" forum people  ;)

They were suggesting a General Tech Forum not necessarily the avast General Forum.

But there should already be enough information in this topic to choose a direction to go. If a laptop, there must be tons of USB WiFi sticks to cover the latest Dual WiFi technology. Or if a desktop a WiFi card.
