I suggest that you do a forum search for Azureus and timeout as it has a habit of using non standard ports whilst connecting to the internet, like using the SMTP port (25). This triggers the Internet Mail provider to scan it and because the content doesn't comply to email protocol (because it isn't an email) it often timesout.

Hihi you beat me for a second there with your reply... Anyway so basically what you are saying is that Azureus is crap just because javaw.exe is creating timeouts in avast(BTW i'm not an avast user so i have no such problems)?
There you go again, either putting words into my mouth or trying to read my mind, I didn't say it was useless, I don't swear on the forums as there have been minors on the forums. Since you aren't an avast user I would have to ask why you are hanging around the avast forums? I don't know why anyone who isn't using avast would wish to participate in the avast forums.

I wonder why it's the most popular bittorrent client out there then(millions of users)...Also not every person running azureus and avast is having problems with timeouts just a small minority(i know Sasha doesn't have these problems). And could you stop saying azureus uses non standard ports(especially since you don't know the first thing about this program since you never used it) cause it's not true.Azureus uses only one port David and that's the one that the user sets up OK.There is something going on with javaw.exe and you are basically just guessing here why these timeouts are happening(so am i) nothing else...
Not guessing, did you do a forums search as I suggested, because there are many occurances of this javaw.exe and timeouts and they are all using Azureus, coincidence, I don't know we can only go on what is presented? None of the posts in the forums that has had this javaw.exe related timeout if they havn't been using Azureus.

We need alwil here to tell us more about this issue since it's avast that is popping up these messages right(and i know this issue has been around for some time but nobody from alwil has commented on this, correct me if i am wrong)?
They may well comment, but the I believe reason the timeout occurs is something, javaw.exe is using a port monitored by the email scanner and it isn't using the email protocol, which the email scanner is expecting. Why it should be using an email port and what would initiate the call to javaw.exe to connect is the question?

Perhaps it is a coincidence that when this happens Azureus is installed also and obviously Sun's Java, could there be some spyware/malware using javaw.exe to connect? If that was the case then why would it not effect more of those not using Azureus but have Sun's Java installed?
Could it be that those experiencing this timeout with javaw.exe and have Azureus installed have an old version of Java? However, why would others with old versions of Sun's Java not be reporting this same problem.

Latest Sun's java here 5.0 update 6

Never ever had any single problem with Azureus, no internet connection timeouts whatsoever... so it looks like my Azureus isn't connection through those "e-mail ports" (spot the quotes) or what ?

Edit: Forgot to say, before this Java update I had all other updates and still I never experienced any problems with Azureus.

Since you aren't an avast user I would have to ask why you are hanging around the avast forums? I don't know why anyone who isn't using avast would wish to participate in the avast forums.

You are telling people time and time again Azureus uses non standard ports and that just isn't true sorry Why? Because the user set's up the port for Azureus to use and the default port Azureus is set up to use is 6881(yes the one trojans love) .I said CRAP so what?Like you are a perfect angel and never swear(besides how many 8 year olds read a security forum)...What is it to you why i'm on this forum don't i have the right to be here like everyone else?FYI i was an avast(that's PRO user) user for over a year and i've been here on this forum for about the same time too.

I don't have to search i read most of them. One was even started by me.

They may well comment, but the I believe reason the timeout occurs is something, javaw.exe is using a port monitored by the email scanner and it isn't using the email protocol, which the email scanner is expecting. Why it should be using an email port and what would initiate the call to javaw.exe to connect is the question?

I was thinking...
I'm no firewall expert or anything like that but listen to this theory David... I have port 51111 set up for Azureus but what does that mean?It means i can only be reached trough port 51111 right(incoming)? But when i make outgoing connections to other users they also have some ports set up right(you can set any port you want with azureus)? What if one of those other people were to use let's say port 25, then my computer would connect trough port 25 to his machine but since port 25 is used for mail avast wouldn't recognize the traffic and those alerts would start popping up ... What do you think?I'll add a screenshot from my firewall for you...

Well is there any sense to my logic?

could there be some spyware/malware using javaw.exe to connect?

I certainly hope that isn't the case...

Cheers

Mikey

Hi Miha,

If you are wondering, old gamer, what a certain program, process
is contecting on the Net, where it goes, actually per object, analyse it using TDI Mon. You get it here:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/TdiMon.html
You just open TdiMon, leave it open, and run for instance Azereus or whatever, and save the file with achosen log name, and go through it step by step.
You then get a log like this, just a tiny piece of a firefox browser TDIMon log of mine:

442   19.61629840   Firefox   5E000XXX   TDI_DISCONNECT   TCP:0.0.0.0:2624      SUCCESS-445
444   19.73239520   Firefox   0648xxxD   TDI_EVENT_RECEIVE   TCP:0.0.0.0:2620   65.54.153.254:80   MORE_PROCESSING   Length:1460 Flags: LOOKAHEAD
446   19.74927280   Firefox   5E000XXXTDI_CLOSE_CONNECTION   TCP:0.0.0.0:2624      SUCCESS
DI_EVENT_RECEIVE   TCP:0.0.0.0:2620   65.54.153.254:80   MORE_PROCESSING

That is all,

polonus

No.

You have to re-download one of those packages I gave you links for (top of this page) because I updated them again. Now Trillian icon is included.
