Sometimes you have to replace it.
« on: December 15, 2005, 07:00:33 PM »
Hi anti-malware fighters,

Sometimes we have to analyze, sometimes we have to alter,
and sometimes we have to replace running system files.
The program to do this with is:
http://www3.telus.net/_/replacer/
For those tweaking geeks replacer is as essential as resource hacker is,

greets,

Hello ReVaN,

And what you can do with these two useful programs like Replace and Resource Hacker (also a useful program), you can learn at this site: http://weblogs.asp.net/cumpsd/articles/194736.aspx

Not that I will say people should do all thethings like shown there  with their home PC. I only say here that these programs can come in very handy for analyzing and sanitizing purposes. The security aware power user cannot do without certain tools. I hope you agree with this vision, my friend. I dare to say to everyone, the race is almost lost or can be seen as already lost. A bit of good education like we are offering can improve the user's security many times more than a couple of green icons blinking in the taskbar, which are mostly acting to lure you in a misplaced feeling of security.
If you installed malware on your comp, you are lost. period. Regardless of what protection software you will install.

Regards,

polonus

Hi ReVaN,

And like for all good things, there is the rule of three. Sometimes you have to analyze the dll. A very good tool in your toolbox for that is Reflector. It has many aspects, and is an in-depth survey tool. For those who like to download it, it can be found here:
http://www.aisto.com/roeder/dotnet/ Zip file for Reflector pre-scanned with DrWeb's hyperlink scanner and OK.

Enjoy and use with care,
