aswmonflt.sys bsod endless reboot cycle
« on: December 08, 2015, 05:32:30 PM »
Hello there, my name is Kevin

so recently I've been having an issue with my laptop. whenever it boots it pops up with the BSOD, saying that there seems to be an error regarding "aswmonflt.sys". Idk what that was at first, but I found out that it has something to do with Avast and the system files. I saw many topics online that are also like mine, but with another service.

my computer is a hp pavilion dv6-3225dx and is currently running windows 10. It's a 64-bit system and it originally came with windows 7, but I upgraded it on the release date

I hope someone is able to help me with this, thanks in advance and I hope I get a reply soon

For windows 10 you will need to refresh the system

Well, i tried to do that a few days ago and it wouldn't let me get into the boot settings. The furthest I've gotten so far is getting into system recovery. I had no restore points, so I tried using farbar recovery scan tool in the command prompt. The only problem I'm having right now is making a fixlist.

If you have an FRST log you can attach that

I'm now using bitdefender. I removed Avast like a week ago and AVG was months ago.

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Start FRST as before and press fix.
On completion try a normal boot

It worked. I cannot thank you enough for the help.
I only have a few minor issues now.
1st. the keyboard and the touchpad won't work (I tried reinstalling the drivers for them, but it didn't work)
2nd. windows keeps asking me to give a activation key, but it says it's already activated.

can you maybe help me with that too?

Run Avastclear to see if that returns the keyboard

Download Avast Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
  • Run the uninstall tool and accept the reboot to safe mode
  • Once complete reboot your system

side question: my brother's laptop's wifi driver updated by itself last night and now it's not working (aka, no wifi connection) and I can't seem to make an Ethernet connection work either. got any advice?

the wifi adapter: Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter
laptop model: HP 15-039WM
system: 64 bit
windows 10, upgraded from 8.1 since august

also another few question: if there's no way to stop windows from keep asking me for the activation code, is it advisable to make a clean install of windows 10?
and are there any benefits if you clean install?

A clean install will register the computer and ensure that there is no other junk on the system

For the wifi roll back the driver

Was the driver from windows update ?  If so then go to the manufacturers website and download the latest one from there http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-15-Notebook-PC-series/7137590/model/7311084/drivers
