Have definition updates reduced in frequency for 8.0.1506?
« on: December 11, 2015, 04:06:04 PM »
I am aware of this notification about program updates ceasing for older versions.

Have definition updates now become less frequent?

On a Win 7 machine running  AIS 8.0.1506, there have been no definition updates since 2015-12-09 until just a few minutes ago. See attached pic.

Streaming updates are enabled but the listed/notified update is running behind v.9
E.g. yesterday AIS 8.0.1506 was at 151212-3,
Avast Free 9.0.2021 was up to 151213-0

Well version 8 and 9 are on different VPS versions

If you download the full virus database, there are three versions one for avast 4.8.0, one for avast versions 5 to 8 and then one for avast 2014 (9) & 2015 (10) - this also includes avast 2016 (11).

Given the above I would say that there is every possibility there would be differences in the avast 8.0 and avast 9.0 virus definitions, which may see a different frequency.

Thanks DavidR
I did try to download the full database a number of times on different PCs but each time it failed at the very end. (example attached).

No problem.

It wasn't so much a suggestion to download the full database, more to show that between avast 8 and avast 9 the VPS function changed. That would probably impact on how it is compiled, delivered in the avast 8 installations.

New signatures may well be in avast 9 but not in avast 8 because it doesn't have the background avast scanning functionality to use the new signatures. But it is certainly weird.
