memory and startup scan
« on: November 24, 2003, 07:38:37 PM »
Is the option to scan 'memory and startup' during simple interface launch, the same as screen saver scan set to 'scan memory and startup'. I presume so. Is there any other way to launch this type of scan.

Are you asking whether you can set the screensaver to scan the startup and memory, instead of your drives?

Well, I think in Professional version, you could edit the ScreenSaver task and modify its area to test. You could put Startup there (even All Users Startup)... as for the memory, I'm not completely sure. You can set the "real memory" scan there, but the Splash screen tests just the modules loaded in memory in fact.

Or maybe you're asking about something else?

Home edition allows you to add 'memory and startup' to screen saver scan, which I have done (Areas). Just wondering if something like a desktop button could launch a scan of 'memory and startup' as a manual scan ie is there a .exe file that could so this.

Ah, OK. I would say - isn't it exactly what the "main" executable - ashAvast does?  ;D

OK, I admit it does something more - it starts the Simple User Interface afterwards (ashSimple.exe).
There is no executable that would perform just the memory scan (as far as I know). The "area selection" is part of the engine - i.e. it's not like "one area" = "one .exe".

Try running this:

<avast>\ashquick "*STRT-MEM-SHORT"

:)

It shouldn't scan your whole system - only modules currently loaded in memory (which certainly includes a number of DLLs from the system directory) and auto-start programs.
What's the number of files scanned (and the number of files in the system directory)?

I'll try again and post... Excuse me, at the first time I was not so patient, avast! scanned by 700 files and I give up...  :D
