home update 14Dec
« on: December 15, 2005, 12:24:05 AM »
Hi I'm new here on the board.

I seem to be having problems sending email via outlook express. I just get an error message. This problem seems to have started after the Avast update today.

Has anyone else had this problem and can anyone suggest a solution easy for a non techie to understand!!

Many thanks

Was it a program update you did?
If so some of the components will have changed and you firewall should challenge that change, if you inadvertently denied it some element/s could be blocked by the firewall.

What is your firewall?
Does it allow access to ashMaiSv.exe, the avast! Email Scanner?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Hi David R.

The problem seemed to occur after an automatic update. However after deleting one particular email I tried to send (which was a reply) the problem seems to have been resolved. I haven't had a problem replying to this particular address before!

Thanks ever so much for taking the time to respond

Regards

Err actually I still seem to have the problem I can send new mail, but can't send a reply!!! Pah!!! :-\

I have spy bot installed and had no probs so far.

Have no idea if it allows access to ashMaiSv.exe.  ???

I'm assuming it is something to do with Avast as it was fine one day and the next after the update downloaded I started with problems?!

If anyone has any ideas?

Of course it may not be Avast at all but some other problem,

If you can send and receive mail then ashMaiSv.exe is allowed in your firewall.

Why you can send emails you create but can't send replies is something that avast doesn't care about, it doesn't differentiate between replies or sending emails that you create.

This does sound strange, what email program are you using?
Do you have more than one email account that uses a different ISP connection? It may be that it won't allow an email to be sent if the sender isn't logged on to their ISP connection.

What error messages are you getting when you can't send replies?
