2016 Blocking Printer
« on: December 27, 2015, 07:51:41 PM »
I'm totally ticked.  In the previous version, if I turned off the firewall for 10 minutes, I could print to my HP printer.  (It took me 1/2 a day to learn this!!)  Now, I can no longer right click on the icon and turn off the firewall in this latest version (nothing happens...right click does not work).  HOWEVER, even when I go to the program itself and turn Avast off for 10 minutes, Avast continues to block any printing.

I DO NOT understand Avast's settings.  I've tried adding IP addresses and URLs without any success!!!  Pretend I'm from Mars and need step-by-step instructions.

Someone please help me...I'm wasting daylight and I'm not getting any younger.

Set the firewall to ask what to do when it detects traffic.
If it alerts you and you see/are sure it is for/from your printer let it create a rule for it.

Whilst I don't use the avast firewall, but isn't there a setting relating to File and Printer sharing ?

Also what environment do you have the firewall set to ?
I believe there is a setting for lower risk use, e.g. Home.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Eddie...Thanks you for your reply.  Where in particular is this setting?  I need particulars.  I'm using the latest version (2016) and have no clue where this setting might be.

DavidR...Thank you.
