Avast won't start
« on: January 02, 2006, 02:46:09 PM »
Hi,

The other day on-access protection wasn't working so I tried a repair, a reinstall no luck.

So I removed and re-installed and still get nothing.

I get an error message along the lines of 'Storage cannot be created for the "splash" task'

Attached is an ouptut from the logging system.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Lou

Check this and see if it helps: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=17530.0

Or, if you are using the latest version, just right click the avast tray icon, select Program Settings, switch to the Troubleshooting page and check the "Use XML Storage" box.
You may try to open the <avast>\data\avast4.ini file and in the [Common] section, change the item Database=ODBC to Database=XML. This could prevent the Microsoft Jet drivers from accessing the database... does it have any (positive) effect?

Maybe you can download and update your MDAC Utility: Component Checker...

There's also an MDAC/Jet repair tool... http://www.macropool.com/en/download/mdac.html#Repair
