avast 4 updates
« on: March 18, 2003, 07:22:55 AM »
I dont seem to have seen this exact problem posted before so here goes.
When I attempt to update either program or virus defs I receive error message 200000006 (other http error).
Under PROXY SERVER SETTINGS I have direct connection selected,  I  have to change to auto detect ie settings  for the connection to work.
WIN98 SE, IE 5.50 ???

And do you use a proxy server, then?  ;D If you do, why are you surprised? It needs to be set up correctly...

You can check the current proxy settings of IE by looking in Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings.

Hope this helps,
Vlk

Thanks for speedy reply vlk, No I do not have any proxy servers listed, however I do have automatically detect settings selected, could this have any bearing on the subject?
Thanks. :-\

0x20000006 is HTTP_ERROR. So either
1) your proxy is misconfigured (can you use web browser or wget or anything from the machine)?

2) you were unlucky to use iavs.cz mirror at the moment (it had some hiccups yesterday).

Can you check the setup.log file for more details?

Thank for responding Jindrich (I assume that is your first name)
I dont think this is a serious problem because I can connect through auto detect, however in answer to your questions.

1) Yes I can connect to the internet, download. upload, infact do anything.

2) Maybe.

3)  The setup log does show a few errors.

how do I attach this txt log without pasting it in?

     ( It's raining today)

Do you run on a LAN? I.e. how are you connected to the Internet?

Thanks for responding vlk,
I connect through modem dialup.
I do have an option to use a proxy server but I do not need or use this facility.

Thanks.

No rain today.
