Why do I have to keep updating this..? and where do I get a new one..? cheers..

I do not have to re-register when you update the program and/or the virus database... What is happening in your system? What avast is asking for?  ;)

AFAIK no, but avast should be bugging you with about 2 weeks advance.

Anyway, the mail notification seems like a good idea -- we'll talk about it.

The e-mail you are talking about is sent to all registrated home users after one year from last successfull registration. You should receive following e-mail:

* This mail was sent to this address because it was filled in
* the registration form at http://www.avast.com/i_kat_207.php?lang=ENG
* If you got this mail by mistake, you may delete it immediately or forward
* this message to unregister@avast.com.

Dear avast! user,

Thank you for using our antivirus - avast! Home Edition. Because you registered the program one year ago the validity of activation key will expire within few days and it will not be possible to update the virus database of avast! program. So please register again. You will receive new activation key. By entering this key into avast you will be allowed to get updates for the next one year.

Currently generated keys have 14 months update period so you will have 2 months to re-register and to apply new activation key.
