Just installed Avast Free on a laptop and Avast is constantly running at around 30% CPU usage.

Any other security program installed? Firewall? Antimalware?
How long is Avast running in your computer? All the offline scannings and the computer setup could take some hours in background.

I installed it 24 hours ago and the initial scan completed quite quickly.

I don't have any other security software installed other than what comes as standard on Windows 10.

Please attach the Farbar logs (FRST.txt and Addition.txt) so we can see what else is running.
It can be that something that is running (in the background) is causing a lot of scanning.

@ Snappy Phoenix

Wouldn't it be better to find out if something else is the issue before jumping to a possible wrong conclusion?
