Did you check your firewall settings?
The following programs should be allowed to connect:

C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable)

Do the other computers have Xp Home SP2 too?
If you disable avast protection, can you connect the computers?

I cannot connect to the other computers even when I shut off the firewall. I cannot connect until I uninstall avast. Both computers are running XP Home SP2.

Which are your settings for DEP (Data Execution Prevention)?
Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance > Configuration (or setup or custom) > DEP

Any other security program that monitors at low level?
PrevX, ProcessGuard, Norton GoBack?

Default settings for DEP...."Turn DEP on for essential Windows programs and services only"

No other security programs running

How are you accessing the other machines, exactly? You mean like network shares?

Hi, I am having the exact same problem. I have xp home sp2. No firewall, including windows firewall. DEP is at default, enabled. Before avast, I could browse my network, now I can not (using network sharing through windows). I have tried to terminate each service in avast one by one also. Oh and one other thing. I just uninstalled windows onecare if that makes a difference. I just installed this on my wifes computer ( never had onecare on it, but did have avg) and her computer access our network neigborhood just fine..hmmm
