Mobile app states my home network is "dangerous"
« on: January 31, 2016, 12:56:25 AM »
Hi
The latest version of Avast states my network could be "dangerous" as the Router password is "weak".
The passwords I set are usually defined as "strong" elsewhere. Could some other peripheral for example a switch cause this error.

Routers are often issued by providers and they have "a backdoor".
It can be that is detected.

Hi Eddy
I have set the Providers Router to a modem only configuration and installed my own Wireless Router (better range). I reset the passwords on both Routers from the default value on initial installation.  I also change the Admin Password on my own router on a regular basis.
Is it possible for Avast to be picking up on problems with the provider unit even though it's set to a modem only configuration.

I'm not sure.
I guess it depends on the setup, but this is something for avast to answer.

Hi Dave146, do you mean that router supplied by provider is set as a bridge? Which routers do you have and how they are set? Lukas

Hi Luka. I have the Virginmedia Superhub 2 (in modem only mode) and a Netgear R7500 as my main Wireless Router. There is a switch attached to a port on the R7500 which is used for several wired devices.

Yeah, that was silly of the program, no means to tell it to "trust this wifi network" either, ...

I am tired of all of these notifications. I'm uninstalling ALL of my Avast programs.

Keep blaming it on Android. I don't care.

This is getting annoying, every two or three days it's declaring that one of my secure wifi connections "may be dangerous" and wants to scan it.

Guys,
we are preparing concept of "trusted" Wi-Fis, or better said, getting rid of this notification. It will be implemented soon. For now, we at least decreased priority of this notification, it means notification is not shown when you have any other notification.
