New version KILLS League of Legends! Reports it as malware and then locks it out so it won't run.

Its not the version of avast.  its the dat file detects lollauncher.exe as win32:malware-gen    its a false positive.  I sent file to them asking them to get back to me, which WE all know they wont.

To fix this issue go into your virus chest right click that file and chose to restore and add to exclusion list.   its all fix for you.

I'm on version   10.4.2233 so it has nothing to do with the latest version and is a false positive.

I am happy to announce new version AVAST 2016 (build number 2016.11.1.2253).

Hi,

I've just updated to this new build. It used to be the case that you could temporarily disable the shields, which was very useful on occasion. However, this no longer appears to work in this build (or previous build) ... or the icon in the Notification Area isn't showing any Status change. I've gone through each section in the GUI and can't find mention of Shields nor does a search of the forum find any hits for Disable Shields. Is this a bug or deliberate change?

Please advise. Thanks.

1. If by Status change - do you mean A) avast tray icon doesn't rotate and or B) no Red X or Exclamation mark ! over the avast icon when a shields or shield are/is disabled ?
AvastUI > Settings (cog wheel) > General

2. Both of these functions are working for me, see image1 (animate tray icon) and image2 (tray icon with [top]all shields disabled and [bottom] a single shield disabled, click to expand images.

How to get to shields - AvastUI > Settings (cog wheel) > Active Protection.

I don't understand why you've posted a screenshot of the Avast icon in the Notification Area. I know how to (try to) temporarily disable the Shields from the Avast icon in the Notification Area. My previous post was because this just isn't working on either my PC or laptop. My apologies if I didn't make myself clear.

If I select any of the Disable options from the right-click context menu of the Avast icon in the Notification Area (what your screenshot decribes as the 'Avast tray icon') then I see the Component stop dialog and click on the Yes button to confirm my choice and dismiss the dialog.

In previous versions the Avast icon in the Notification Area would change at this point to an icon with a small red X, signifying that the Shields were disabled.

This is no longer happening on either my desktop (Win 7 SP1) or laptop (Win 10 v1511). None of the right-click context menu options (of the Avast icon in the Notification Area) to temporarily disable the shields are working any more.

What you call the Notification Area is actually the following:
The system tray (or "systray") is a section of the taskbars in the Microsoft Windows desktop user interface that is used to display the clock and the icons of certain programs so that a user is continually reminded that they are there and can easily click one of them.
Once disabling any of the shields, the the small red x still appears just as it always has.
May I suggest that you try a repair of Avast. If that doesn't fix your problem, do a clean install.
Here are the directions:

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

1. Simply to show it is working on my system.

2. A key point that I made relates to the tray icon animation (image1 in previous post), which recently has this disabled by default. I don't know if its being disabled has an unforeseen impact in the different icon status red X and ! over the avast tray icon.

Just tested than and it works fine on my main XP Pro system.
I also tested this on my win7 system without issue. So a Repair as suggested by bob3160 might be the next step.

Thank you. Unfortunately neither a 'repair' or 'clean install' worked and I still cannot temporarily disable Avast's Shields from the Avast icon in the Notification Area. Please advise.

PS - Microsoft renamed the 'system tray' to Notification Area in Windows 7 (just check Taskbar and Start Menu Properties) and I know what it's supposed to do. The issue remains that the small red X does not appear when I try to disable Avast's shields temporarily. I'm happy for you that it works for you... but it no longer works for me on either my desktop or laptop... and that's the problem.

2. A key point I made in my original post was "I've gone through each section in the GUI", i.e. checked every setting in the GUI in case the 'tray' animation was disabled.

If you don't have a fix then that's fine... just say.

Thank you. I'm very fortunate to have the ability to create VM's. So I created a new Windows 7 x32 VM with 4 GB ram and dual core CPU and installed Avast Free. No other software installed and the only Internet connection was to download the Avast installer. Tried to right-click and disable shields but to no effect. The Action Center icon in the Notification Area showed an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle so I opened it... to find 2 entries to "Turn on avast! Antivirus" and that Windows Defender had not been turned off.

Next, I loaded a bare (but activated) Windows 10 Pro x32 VM (again, 4 GB ram and dual core CPU) and, using a local account, installed Avast Free. Once again, no other software was installed and the only Internet connection was to download the Avast installer (using Edge) and install it. Tried to right-click and disable shields but to no effect.

I accept that my entire home network may possibly be compromised despite my best efforts (Avast, Malwarebytes) and 35+ years experience of building and fixing PCs, clearing malware, etc. (including many years as a Senior IT Officer then IT Manager for a local authority) .... but I think there's currently a problem with Avast.

Edit: More info. Amongst my downloads I found the installer for Avast Free v11.1.2245.1540. I reverted my W10 VM to its original snapshot (i.e. installed, activated and nothing else) and installed Avast Free. It informed me it was out-of-date but I didn't update. I still could not disable Avast's Shields using the right-click context menu of its icon in the Notification Area.

To double-check, I reverted the W10 VM to its original snapshot (i.e. installed from new, activated and nothing else) and re-installed Avast Free v11.1.2245.1540 a second time... and didn't update. I just waited until the 'You are protected/ Up-to-date' dialog appeared then closed the dialog.

Same thing... I still could not disable Avast's Shields using the right-click context menu of its icon in the Notification Area.

Sorry but, I stand by my original query... Is this a bug or a deliberate change?
